Vedic Astrology – A Science of Light
Astrology is the oldest science in the world, based on mathematical groupings of how everything fits together in the universe. In essence, astrology is spirituality, psychology, numerology, geometry, physics, and astronomy. The principles of Vedic Astrology are based on the Parashara system, created by Varāhamihira in his text Brihat Jataka.
Hymns and Songs
Vedic Astrology is Indian astrology, and its first reference can be found in the Vedas, which date back to approximately 1500 to 2000 BC. The Vedas were put together as hymns and songs, and everything was related to man’s physical being. In these hymns, certain portions of the body related to different sciences, such as yoga or Ayurvedic medicine and Vedic Astrology, were put together as the eyes of the Vedas, the science of light.
Precession of The Equinoxes
The zodiac is a band of stars that surrounds planet Earth, and Vedic Astrology considers the changes that have been occurring over time, called the precession of the equinoxes. Every 72 years, the starting reference point of the zodiac moves back one degree, so the starting reference point of the zodiac that Western astrologers use, 0 degrees of Aries, has moved back 29 degrees of Pisces over 2,000 years. It will take approximately 26,000 years for the zodiac to go through each of the 12 signs, and the starting reference point is currently around six degrees of Pisces.
Navigating the Ups and Downs
Vedic Astrology will give us knowledge and light to understand our life in the world. It gives us vision and insight into this world we don’t know, and it helps us understand ourselves and everything about the universe. As above, so below, everything is constantly in flux and moving. Vedic Astrology is a powerful tool that can help us navigate the ups and downs of life and give us a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
Understanding Vedic Astrology: A Beginner’s Guide
Vedic astrology has been around for thousands of years and is considered one of the most ancient forms. The system of Vedic astrology uses the position of the planets and the stars at the time of an individual’s birth to determine certain aspects of their life. In this article, we will explore the basics of Vedic astrology, including the natal chart, houses, and planets.
The Natal Chart
The natal chart is the cornerstone of Vedic astrology. It is created based on an individual’s time, date, and birth location. The chart represents the positions of the planets and the stars at the exact moment of birth. Vedic astrology believes that the time of birth is when the soul enters the body, and it is the most crucial moment in a person’s life.
The Ascendant and Houses
The Ascendant is the starting point of the natal chart and represents the eastern horizon at the time of birth. The position of the Ascendant is determined by the Sun, and the exact time of birth is critical in accurately determining the Ascendant’s position. Once the Ascendant is determined, the twelve houses are assigned to specific zodiac signs based on their natural order. Each house represents a specific area of a person’s life, such as relationships, career, or family.
The Planets
The planets represent various energies that influence a person’s life. Each planet has a specific meaning and can positively or negatively influence a person’s life. The position of the planets in a person’s natal chart is determined by the exact time, date, and location of their birth. Planets move across the backdrop of the zodiac, which is divided into twelve signs. The signs remain in the same positions relative to the stars while the planets move through them, providing specific energy that influences people differently.
Basics of Vedic Astrology
Vedic astrology provides a fascinating insight into the intricacies of human life. The natal chart, houses, and planets are fundamental to understanding the Vedic astrology system. The positions of the planets at the time of birth determine a person’s characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and destiny. Understanding the basics of Vedic astrology can be a great way to gain insight into your life and the lives of those around you.

Chart Styles in Vedic Astrology
The video starts with an introduction to the chart styles in Vedic Astrology. Unlike Western Astrology, where the chart style can vary, Vedic Astrology uses two chart styles, the North Indian style chart and the South Indian style chart. Both styles show the planets, signs, and houses. The planets travel counterclockwise in the North Indian style chart, while they travel clockwise in the South Indian style chart. In both charts, the houses are fixed, while the signs move.
Understanding the Ascendant Sign
Next, we learn about the importance of the Ascendant Sign, or Lagna, in Vedic Astrology. The Ascendant Sign is the sign that was rising in the east at the time of one’s birth. It determines the chart’s beginning, or the first house, and is the most important factor in interpreting the chart. The Ascendant Sign varies depending on the time and location of one’s birth.
The Planets in Vedic Astrology
The video then delves into the seven planets used in Vedic Astrology: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter, as well as Rahu and Ketu, which are the North and South nodes of the Moon. The planets represent energy and the signs they are in determine how this energy is expressed. Unlike Western Astrology, which focuses on the personality of the planets, Vedic Astrology considers the signs’ strengths and weaknesses in determining the planets’ effects.
The Importance of the Lunar Nodes
In Vedic Astrology, the Lunar Nodes, Rahu and Ketu, are also important in making predictions. These are considered in the grouping of the nine planets, although they are not planets. Rahu and Ketu are imperative in making predictions, representing the idea of grasping or taking hold.
Incorporating Outer Planets in Vedic Astrology
While traditional Vedic Astrology only uses the visible planets, the video tutorial includes Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in its teachings. These planets are not traditionally used in Vedic Astrology but have been incorporated because they work, and the instructor has made successful predictions using them. The outer planets are more relevant to generational effects, while the visible planets are more relevant to personal lives.
Exploring the World of Vedic Astrology: A Review of an Educational Video Tutorial
Vedic astrology is an ancient Indian practice that has been around for thousands of years. It is a complex system that involves the interpretation of planetary movements and their influence on human life. In this educational video tutorial, the host takes us through Vedic astrology basics, including the planets’ significance, elements, and qualities.
Understanding Rahu and Ketu
In Vedic astrology, Rahu and Ketu are known as the shadowy planets. They do not rule any planets but are points of reference in the zodiac where the Sun and the Moon come together. These points move backward in the zodiac, unlike planets, and are what cause eclipses. Rahu is associated with what brings us into this world, and Ketu takes us out of this world. As the host explains, these two points are significant prediction tools because they represent our destiny.
Malefic and Benefic Planets
In Vedic astrology, there are malefic and benefic planets. The natural malefic planets are Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu, and the Sun, while Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and the Moon are the benefic planets. The Moon’s benefit is relative to its brightness, depending on its location from the Sun. A bright moon is considered a benefic planet, while a dark moon is called a malefic. The host suggests understanding the natural malefic and benefic planets is critical to interpreting a chart.
Elements and Qualities
The host explains that understanding the elements (fire, earth, air, and water) and qualities (cardinal, fixed, and mutable) is essential to understand how powerful a planet can be in a chart. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are considered inspirational and relate to our spirit. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) deal with materialistic things and relate to our material gains and wealth. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are associated with talkative and communicative qualities. Finally, water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) deal with our emotions and feelings.
The Four Aims of Life
The host relates the elements to the four aims of life, which are relative to the fire signs (Dharma), earth signs (Artha), water signs (Kama), and air signs (Moksha). Dharma is about living a virtuous life, while Artha deals with our material needs and gains, Kama with our desires and passions, and Moksha with spiritual liberation.
Conclusion
The video tutorial offers a comprehensive overview of Vedic astrology, making it accessible to beginners. Understanding the natural malefic and benefic planets, the elements and qualities, and the four aims of life can be a useful tool in interpreting a chart. The host’s approach is clear, concise, and easy to understand, making this tutorial an excellent resource for those looking to dive deeper into Vedic astrology.
